Downhill Results - August 8, 2010

Coming off of a solid showing at Crankworx Colorado, Diablo local Jason Memmelaar edged out Jamis team rider George Ryan to claim the top spot in the men's pro category.

In the men's AM Senior category, Ryan Gardner posted a fast time besting 2nd place finisher Brendon Schweitzer by nearly 4 seconds. In the Junior category Travis Westerkamp stepped-up to claim his first DH win of the season and posted a solid time of 2:28:67, nearly 3 seconds over 2nd place finisher Joseph Caramia.

In the women's categories, Rebecca Gardner and Maggie Keller took top honors and each posted first place finishes in their respective categories.

Congratulations to all competitors! Thank you for making this a great weekend of grass roots gravity racing!There's two races left in the series and ROUND 4 will take place on September 25-25th.

*DH Course Route*: The downhill course for this weekend will take place beginning on Retreat then branching briefly onto Asylum before traversing over to Waterboy. The course will then connect with Victory to Frogpond and some new wide-open grass turns to the finish!

Whether you are a seasoned race veteran or a newcomer to the sport of downhill racing, the Diablo Gravity Series is grass roots racing at its funnest!

The Giant Slalom will take place this Saturday and this discipline is an excellent opportunity for riders looking to try gravity racing on a unique and fun slalom course that is not as technically demanding as our downhill courses. Prizes are awarded to the top 3 racers in each category!

On Sunday, the Downhill discipline will take place and racers will tackle the technical terrain of Monarch, Legion and Frog Pond.

Not interested in racing? Have no fear! Diablo Freeride Park is ALWAYS open during event weekends and the race courses are designed to have very little impact on the rest of the trail network. Most trails, including popular lines such as Dominion, Alpine, Greenhorn, among many others remain open and un-interupted!

Diablo is the place to be this weekend! See you on Saturday!

Greetings! The ParkLogic trail crew is catching up on routine maintenance this week and the recent rain has been a huge help! Thanks to mother nature the dust has settled and the trails are back to that tacky, grippy Diablo velcro that you've come to love! Routine maintenance is being performed around the mountain on jump trails, natural trails and everything in between!

If you haven't been to the park in the last few weeks, be sure to check out all the new features on the newly revamped Lower Dominion Line! Don't forget that this line is rated 'Expert Only' so always inspect features before attempting!

Trail Update: June 30, 2010

The ParkLogic Crew is forging ahead and adding even more new features this week! We are in the process of renovating the former Salvation trail and the improvements are truly transforming this section. As a result, we have retired the Salvation trail name and this new, reworked section is now considered an extension of Lower Dominion. More features, better flow... more fun!

In addition to the 3 new features that were added last week, we have added a new step down and this new step-up/table shown below. Be sure to inspect these new features before attempting!

Not interested in jump trails? Have no fear, we have doubled-up on trail work for the past few weeks and the trail crew is performing routine maintenance across the mountain and on various trails. We have been experiencing some very dry weather and as a result we are spraying sensitive trails with a soil additive to help keep these trails 'tacky' and to resist erosion and dust. Talk about commitment!

Downhill Results: June 27, 2010

Conditions were warm and dusty for ROUND 2 of the Diablo Gravity Series and local riders George Ryan, Jon Hanson and Dennis Pryor took top honors in the Men's categories.

Ellie Porru edged out Hannah Trimble and Caitlyn Franascovich to take the win in the Women's Amatuer category and Rebecca Gardner captured the Women's Pro top spot.

Congratulations to all racers! The next Diablo Gravity Series race weekend is scheduled for August 7th and 8th. Series standings will be updated later today.

Trail Update: Greenhorn / Salvation

It is only Wednesday and the trail crew is making great progress this week! Our focus the past few days has been directed at completing the new Greenhorn reroute (see post below) and adding some fun features to the trail section just after Salvation. These current improvements are part of a much bigger project to create the ultimate top-to-bottom jump and feature filled line by improving under-utilized sections of Upper Breakout, Salvation, Alpine and the new section formerly known as Greenhorn. Confusing? Yes... But if you like jumping you'll love the improvements!

Weather permitting, we anticipate the first reworked section to open this weekend. This section will feature 3 new features.

Trail Update: Greenhorn Reroute

This week the ParkLogic crew has been tending to some areas needing maintenance and we are also putting the finishing touches on a new reroute of Greenhorn which is expected to open next weekend (26th & 27th).

In an effort to improve the experience for both novice and advanced riders, we are in the process of rerouting Greenhorn where it had previously merged with Salvation. This new section will still cross Salvation but merge much farther across the mountain to create 2 distinct lines.

This fun new section will provide more segregation between beginner & advanced riders and improve the overall experience for both skill levels. The new section features a mellow pitch and meanders across the fall line with some fun rollers and elevation change.

In addition to being a much better trail section, this Greenhorn reroute will now allow us to construct up to 4 new mid-size jumps immediately after the 2nd feature on Salvation (formerly Greenhorn). Weather depending we anticipate both sections to be open on the 26th. Keep it here for more info early next week!

Trail Update: Ego Trip

Another busy week at Diablo! In addition to routine maintenance across the mountain, the ParkLogic Crew has put the finishing touches on the new section of Ego Trip. Ego Trip will be closed early Saturday morning but will promptly reopen by noon.

The trail crew has been putting in some long hours and the trails are in excellent shape for this upcoming weekend. Next week the ParkLogic crew will continue with a barrage of trail maintenance and begin some all-new trail sections!

The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for mostly cloudy skies for the majority of the day with a 20% chance of showers by late afternoon. Ride Diablo!

ParkLogic Trail Crew: Back in action!

It has been a while since our last post and there is plenty to chat about! The 2010 U.S. Open is in the books and we are pleased to announce that it was the most successful event weekend to date at Diablo Freeride Park. During the event period a total of 2,038 racers and freeriders were on the mountain making it an amazing weekend of gravity riding! A huge thank you goes out to all the racers, freeriders, sponsors, volunteers, staff and to Mountain Creek Resort for making this annual event a huge success!

The ParkLogic Crew has been back on the mountain and tons of routine maintenance is taking place throughout the trail network. In the past few days alone, the crew has diligently scoured the mountain to keep the trails in prime condition. Trails such as Tempest, Outlaw, Twist, EgoTrip, Greenhorn, Deviant, Dominion, The Jack, Upper Breakout, Covenant, Pipeline, Dirt Merchant, Alpine, among others have been recently maintained and are in excellent condition!

Stay tuned for more info as the ParkLogic begins some interesting new projects next week!

Popular trails are being sprayed with a soil additive which will help resist dust and erosion!

U.S. Open Update: Kenda Kicker

With the 2010 U.S. Open of Mountain Biking just 11 days away, the Diablo ParkLogic crew will be working day and night adding new features and getting the U.S. Open course 100% dialed prior to the event. George Ryan, Jamis Team rider and ParkLogic trail crew member, provided his stamp of approval this afternoon after testing the new Kenda Kicker at the bottom of the 2010 downhill course. The 2010 rendition of this classic feature is faster, bolder and bigger and measures a full (yes we used a tape measure) 40feet gap. More updates early this week!

Downhill Results: May 9, 2010

Just under 100 racers braved the brisk conditions and waited-out a morning windhold to test their mettle on the Diablo Gravity Series 'Asylum' course.

The conditions were prime and the racing action was fierce. World Cup vet and Diablo local Jurgen Beneke posted the fastest time of the day notching his first win of the season while amateur shredders Ryan Gardner and Dan Albert took top honors in the men's amateur categories.

Becky Gardner of the Beacon Bombers and Isabel Georgian claimed the top spots in the women's categories.

A huge thanks to all racers for attending the event and making ROUND 1 a fun and successful event. The wind-hold in the morning hours tried everyone's patience, but in the long run it was a fun day with some fierce competition.

Giant Slalom Results - 5/8/2010

The first Giant Slalom race of the 2010 season is in the books!

Racers tackled a buff IndyCross course but where challenged by heavy wind and a tricky new finish-line feature.

George Ryan captured the Men's Pro division. Local rippers Jon Hanson and Travis Westerkamp defended their home turf and took top honors in the Mens AM Senior and Junior categories respectively.

Downhill takes place tomorrow! Last chance registration will take place from 9:00am to 11:30am at Diablo Mountain Sports. The race begins promptly at 12:45pm!

IndyCross Update

The popular IndyCross trail received a minor facelift this week. Some berms and rollers were tweaked and we installed this new gap-on/gap off feature at the bottom of the course. Weather permitting this new feature will be in tomorrows race! The feature will also be used in this little event we call the U.S. Open on May 27-30th, so start practicing!

Trail Update: U.S. Open 'Chute' Area

With the 2010 U.S. Open three weeks away it can only mean one thing...Course preparation has begun!

Pictured here is the new and improved USO step-up which will lead to a new, and improved USO Chute. The new step-up is much larger than the first gen and will definitely be a great vantage point for spectating. Higher speeds, bigger air and the potential to gap the entire flat spot.

We are way ahead of schedule, but please note this area will not be open for this weekend (May 8th and 9th). The anticipated opening of this area will be the following weekend and will allow you some pre-U.S. Open sessions which will help get the new line burned in.

Opening day is finally here!

It has been 5 1/2 weeks since we first began our pre-season maintenance and trail building campaign. The ParkLogic crew has been putting in some incredibly long days to get the park dialed just in time for opening day! As you can see by some of the posts here in the blog we have made some great progress and have rationed our time wisely by improving existing trails, while adding some new features and lines here and there.

It has been a fun five weeks and we have accomplished most of the projects we set out to tackle. On the flipside, there are a few projects that are not quite complete for opening day and we wanted to give you the heads up. As follows:

-U.S. Open Chute - As most of you know, this fun little section was eliminated in order to accommodate a very important ski trail project last fall. We have a solid plan in place to re-establish this area but we are going to need 7-10 before we can finalize and revamp this section. Very worst case, this area will be reopened the week prior to the U.S. Open (and remain open the entire season). We've rerouted the mid section of Asylum to avoid the chute.

-New section of Ego Trip - this relatively short section will be open this weekend, however it is not 100% complete. There will be 1-2 features added within the next two weeks so if the section doesn't quite make sense yet... now you know. There was a delay in our metal shipment which caused us to fall behind on this new-ish intermediate section.

-There are still quite a few features and trail sections that are on our wishlist and we are going to squeeze-in as many projects prior to the U.S. Open as possible. In addition we have an all-new trail called Revelation slated for early summer. Revelation will replace 'Evil Bob' and take advantage of some epic natural terrain.

It is going to be a great season and we look forward to seeing you at the park!

Trail Update: Battleship

More progress on the mountain today! The ParkLogic crew is putting the finishing touches on recent projects and we are pleased with recent progress. Most projects are on schedule, but we have a few loose ends we need to close next week.

Guipedo Arendarski, ParkLogic's Lead Fabricator, created this new feature in record time. The 'ship' is located at the very end of Upper Dominion and is a fun way to cap a really unique run! The feature was designed to be mellow and something to mess around on... gap-able if you maintain speed.

Trail Update: Flume Drop lives!

Flume drop returns! The classic Flume drop has been tweaked from its original meager and mild stature and is now perched nearly 10feet above its new landing.

Be sure to scope this line out before attempting... it has changed a lot since you last hit this feature!

Trail Update: Tempest / IndyCross/ Pipeline

Tempest, Pipeline and Indycross trails have been revamped and buffed-out. In addition we have added to the end of Tempest what we are calling the "Tombstone" kicker (pictured 2nd).

The end of Pipeline has received a new, substantial roller-double. Pipeline is designed for riders that enjoy steep, poppy kickers and it will be necessary to nail the entire Pipeline section in order to maintain speed for the final double. Definitely scope this out before attempting!

Trail Update: Lower Greenhorn

We've spent the last week rerouting what was the former 'domboo' trail. The trail has been extensively rerouted and was designed to complete a more forgiving 'easiest way down'. This newly revamped section is now called Lower Greenhorn and it is a great way for novice level riders to become familiar with riding tame rock gardens, switchbaks and mellow wooden bridges.

This newly revamped Greenhorn top-to-bottom line is geared for novice riders so please make sure they have the right of way at all times!

Trail Update: The Jack

Some quick photos from the new mid-trail reroute of 'the Jack'. We have improved the overall flow and have eliminated the unnecessary ski trail traverse. Also, the Jack can now be accessed by its new entrance near the top of the gondola!

2010 Trail Map Revisions

We've updated the Diablo trail map to reflect some new trails and reroutes (to date).

Notable changes:

-New OUTLAW trail (12)

-The former 'domboo' trail has received a HUGE makeover and reroute. This new reroute is so unique and extensive that we've decided to retire the 'domboo' name and replace with "Lower Greenhorn".

-'The Jack' now has a new entrance immediately off of the top of the gondola near Deceit

-Flume drop returns! Bigger & better!

-Evil Bob has been removed from the map and the existing trail is closed. This is in anticipation of the new Revelation trail coming in June. Revelation was scheduled for 2009, but we opted to introduce Epitaph instead. Revelation is going to be insane!

-The old OTB trail has been removed from the map since Ego Trip has been extended further up the mountain.

Opening day almost here!

Trail Update - April 20, 2010

Opening day is 10 days away and the ParkLogic crew is making tremendous progress. The crew is working overtime and as we approach week 5 of pre-season trail-building, there has already been a ton of improvements!

To keep you in the loop, this past week we have completed the following:

Sections of Asylum have been revamped to control erosion and greatly improve flow
A new bridge [replacement] has been added to the lower section of Waterboy near the merge with Victory
The end of Twist has been reshaped and drainage improved
The mid-section of The Jack has been completely rerouted (avoiding ski trail traverse). The new section adds a ton of flow and really improves the overall trail. In addition, the entrance to the Jack is now located near the entrance of Deceit (closer to gondola).
A NEW double has been added to the end of Pipeline making this line even more fun for those who dig steep and poppy features
Sections of Greenhorn have been tweaked to improve drainage and consistency
The pirate line from Greenhorn to Salvation has been closed! Pirate lines = bad
The run-in of the 2nd kicker on Salvation has been improved to assist drainage and improve speed
We are currently working on Domboo and most of the upper section is being completely rerouted to be better suited for novice-level riders. The new reroute will greatly improve the top-to-bottom experience for new riders looking to get their feet wet on less intimidating terrain.

Much more on the way! It is going to be a busy 10 days, but the ParkLogic crew is dedicated and committed to getting as many improvements complete before opening day!

Trail Update #2 - April 12, 2010

Last week was another busy week as the ParkLogic Crew was on the mountain dawn-til-dusk priming the trail network for another epic season! The crew returns this year bigger than ever and is keen on getting new and existing trails alike in top shape for opening day!

The all-NEW Outlaw trail is now complete and Diablo's own George Ryan took the first test runs early this evening. Outlaw was designed to be a cruiser providing another upper-mountain trail option that links towards Lower Exodus and the Tempest area dropping off directly on the Mountain Creek lake damn. The best way to describe Outlaw? Fast, flowy [flow-e] and unique! Natural, semi-machined trail wizardry at its finest!

In addition to completing Outlaw trail , we have been diligently revamping many areas and features that needed some extra love. Last fall was quite the 'rainy' season and some of your favorite lines got a little more tweaked than usual... We acknowledge this, but have no fear! We are scouring the trail network to make the appropriate adjustments and we are actually way ahead of schedule. Here is just a quick sample of what we have already revamped this past week;

NEW 'Tombstone' rock kicker added to the final stepdown (tempest) leading into Waterboy (20ft gap, high speed, scary... pics soon)
RTN drop - entire runout reshaped and filled
Final section of Exodus - refurb'd and rock armored to wage war against those happy skidders!
Entrance to Lower Excoudos (that's for you hanson!) - dirt added to promote more speed to uphill bridge
Entrance to Stalker - majorly reshaped, erosion issues corrected. No worries, the rest of this trail still has the rocky goodness you have come to love
Roll-in before Asylum - rock armored, reshaped, ready to roll
Waterboy - 50ft of the mid-section has been rock-armored and reshaped. Most of the tech-line still exists, the lower line has some fresh dirt and armoring for the timid
As well as routine and preventative maintenance on Waterboy, Victory, Asylum, Bushwack, Exodus

As you can see, it has been a busy week and we are making some really good progress! Upcoming this week, the crew will be reworking sections of: Asylum, Twist, Domboo, among many others! Stay tuned right here, opening day just around the corner!

Trail Update #1 - April 5, 2010

The ParkLogic Trail Crew has been on the mountain 7 days per week for the last two weeks! We are currently revamping existing trails as well as adding new features to Ego Trip (pictured below), among others. Five new features are being added to Ego Trip and will offer novice/intermediate riders a chance to hone their bike skills before moving to advanced trails and terrain.

We are also in the process of adding an ALL-NEW trail called OUTLAW (pictured below) off of the backside of the mountain that will link to the Lower Exodus / Tempest area. OUTLAW will be semi-natural, semi machine built and will add yet another trail option from the summit.

There are many other improvements in store for this spring and summer so stay tuned right here for the latest info!

Trail Work Begins!

Trail work for the 2010 season has begun!
We are getting an early start this year and the dedicated ParkLogic crew will be working 7 days per week getting the trail network in TOP shape for the upcoming season!

Ego Trip will be extended to the top of the mountain and new intermediate trail features will be added
A new trail called OUTLAW located off the backside of the mountain will be added and will create a fun new line which will connect to Lower Exodus
New features will be added to popular trails such as Pipeline and Dominion
A mountain wide overhaul will take place revamping all terrain features and trails requiring some TLC
All jump lines, landings & take-offs will be treated with an environmentally friendly soil bonding ingredient which is designed to resist erosion and keep features in top shape
Novice trails such as Domboo will receive strategic reroutes to create a better flowing top-to-bottom novice run
Trail favorites such as the Flume Drop and U.S. Open ‘chute’ will be reestablished and revamped
